- Abilities First
Having a good job raises self-esteem and fosters self-sufficiency & independence.
Every person should have access to meaningful employment. But today there are still many people with disabilities who cannot find employment. We are working to change that through our Employment Services.
According to the 2013 Disability Status Report for Ohio (the most recent report available), the employment rate of working-age people (ages 21 to 64) with disabilities in OH was 33.9 percent – which means that the un-employment rate in this sector of the population is 66.1%.
Our goal is to eliminate barriers to employment and bridge the gap between job seekers with a disability and the employers; this includes educating employers about the value and benefits of hiring people with disabilities.
The Employment Services Department offers a comprehensive range of services for people with disabilities, focusing on job preparedness and employment. Whether developing new skills, preparing to enter the job market for the first time or seeking to change careers, our staff is ready to assist you in reaching your goals.
