Summertime Therapy
May 24 – August 13, 2010
The Summertime Therapy program is open to children with special needs. All groups are designed and led by licensed therapy staff. They encourage social interaction, cooperation and turn taking with peers, while providing therapy input specific to the needs of the children.
Terrific Toddlers Group
Provides play-based experiences for children ages 18 to 36 months who present with language delays. These therapeutic experiences foster socialization, communication skills, and openness to sensory exploration.
When: Monday, 9:15 - 10:00am

School Readiness Group
A therapeutic group for children ages 3 to 7 years who demonstrate difficulty with speech-language skills and other basic concepts for academic success in kindergarten and first grade. The group creates learning opportunities for children to develop classroom social skills and peer relationships.
When: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, 10:30 - 11:30am

Skills 4 Life Group
A group that provides school aged children with a variety of therapeutic experiences in recreational, social and community settings that improve their social interactions, self-esteem, self-help and cognitive skills through their active participation. Therapy staff and volunteers will safely supervise any outings.
When: Tuesday 4:00 - 5:00pm

Fitness Fun Group
Fun and Fitness for children ages 8-16 years who currently experience motor difficulties such as poor balance, muscle weakness and low endurance. The children will be provided opportunities to explore fitness activities such as Yoga, Ball gymnastics, Taekwondo, Weight Training as well as participate in other games that promote physical fitness. Participants must be able to walk without assistance from another person and be able to consistently follow simple directions.
When: Thursday, 9:00 - 10:00am

Sensory Social Group
One on one sensorimotor play sessions in a group setting so children, ages 3 to 7 years, will obtain benefits from both environments. Children will participate in a variety of fun activities that encourage social skills, sensory registration/modulation skills and a positive self image. This group is particularly useful for children with autism and other sensory related challenges.
When: Tuesday, 9:15 - 10:15am

Social Group
One on one treatment sessions in a group environment that provides children (ages 8-16 years) the opportunity to socialize with peers through therapist guided activities. This group is best suited for children with some verbal skills who have challenges with their social communication abilities and play skills (e.g., board games, sports). Targeted goals include improving: conversational skills; self-regulation skills; listening skills; sequencing skills; initiation skills; and impulse control.
When: Wednesday, 12:30-1:30pm

Dance Abilities
This is an opportunity for children ages 7 and up including those in wheel chairs, to participate in a dance class with peers. This group will include a variety of dance techniques including structured choreographed dance and spontaneous dance. Balance, body awareness and coordination will be addressed in this class. There will also be many opportunities to develop self-esteem, creativity and attention. There will be a dance recital at the end of the summer.
When: Monday, 9:30-10:30

“How Does Your Engine Run?” Individual/Group Sessions
One on one sensorimotor sessions in a group environment. Sessions will include a variety of activities to aid in understanding and identifying a child’s level of alertness. The sessions will also include a variety of sensory experiences that a child can implement in preparation for life’s daily activities such as going shopping, getting ready for bed, working on homework, etc.
When: Wednesday, 9:30 - 10:30am

Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is offered to children age birth to 22 years. Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy & Speech Therapy are available. Therapeutic activities will be specific to the child’s needs.
When: Monday – Friday, various times

Handwriting Therapy
Individual occupational therapy offered to school age children who struggle with simple pencil-and-paper tasks and/or demonstrate poor legibility. Therapists introduce a variety of activities to improve fine motor coordination, eye-hand coordination, hand strength and sensory awareness. In addition, a variety of modifications and techniques are introduced to boost handwriting skills.
When: Monday – Friday, various times

Reading Program (fees not covered by insurance)
The Orton-Gillingham program is an approach to teaching reading that uses phonics, visual models, auditory feedback and movement. The program provides students with immediate feedback and a predictable sequence that integrates reading, writing and spelling.
When: Tuesday – Friday, various times

Interacting with Your Child with Autism
An opportunity to work with speech-language pathologist and occupational therapist experienced in DIR and Hanen to increase your child’s interaction skills (i.e. play, eye contact, “joint attention”) with a parent/caregiver. Hanen, Floortime, coaching and video taping techniques will be used. The parent/caregiver will be an active part of each therapy session.
When: Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, various times

Therapeutic Listening
Therapeutic Listening is a music program that impacts the nervous system. This technique uses specific CDs to prepare the body for sustained attention and active listening. In sessions, Therapeutic Listening will be used with a variety of sensory activities to enhance the effectiveness of the program. Additional fee, not paid by insurance, will be charged for special listening equipment needed for each child.
When: Monday – Thursday, various times
Staff: Occupational Therapist
Every child will be evaluated for appropriate placement.
Extended school year services available if pre-approved by your school district.
